Rhythm over Rigidity
When I first started this journey, I had a color-coded spreadsheet that broke our day into thirty-minute increments. 9:00 AM was for math, 9:30 AM was for reading, and 10:00 AM was for success. Or so I thought.
In reality, that ticking clock just created pressure. It left no room for the natural breath of our family life. That was when I discovered the peace of a rhythm. Unlike a schedule, which feels like a military drill, a rhythm is more like a dance. It isn’t about the clock; it’s about the sequence.
In our home, we follow a simple, four-part flow:
Mornings with Jesus: We start at the table, connecting with each other and with God.
Wiggle Time: We move our bodies and wake up our senses with gross motor play and coordination.
Stories & Audiobooks: We settle back in to get lost in a living book or a beautiful story.
Recording our Wonder: We finish by capturing what we've learned in our journals—turning our discoveries into a keepsake.
Moving to a rhythm has given us the freedom to embrace the unexpected. If a lesson sparks a million questions, we stay. We don't rush. We know the next part of our rhythm will be waiting for us whenever we are ready.
By trading the stopwatch for a gentle flow, we’ve found a more peaceful way to live. Every family is different and your rhythm doesn’t need to look like ours but it’s so important that you find one.
